Peach Leaf Curl. 5.20.19

Peach Leaf Curl.  "Charlotte Peach".  5.20.19
This is typical for "Charlotte".  Most of the leaves are affected.  Each year, it develops curl, then recovers most of the way, during the summer.  As a result, the peaches are usually few, small, and not very good.  I keep the tree because it's mature and sometimes I do get a peach.

I wonder what would happen if I overgraft part of it with "Cowlitz" peach.  Hmmm.

  1. Yeah, I get peach leaf curl every other year or so. And, for the second year in a row, I will have no peaches, nectarines, or almonds. Boo hiss. By the way, my apple grafts didn't take. Not surprised.
Hope all is well with you, Daniel. Looks like you're busy.

    1. Thank you Randy.

What method did you use for your apple grafts? Whip-and-tongue works the best for me, although it takes some practice and sometimes blood.

Leaf curl is the bane of anyone who wants to grow peaches in the Pacific NW. It almost always means, no peaches and very often dead tree. I want to try yet another new variety "Nainamo" which was offered by One Green World two years ago but not since then, which is reportedly among the most resistant.

I am good. I try to do too much and keep saying "after this project I will not do another big project". But some stuff just needs doing. I am working on less-work methods for some of my gardening. Gradually I think it will be more of the parts that I enjoy, and less of the parts that I need to do in order to do the parts that I enjoy :-)

      Hope you are well!
