These are amazing. They are like the peony version of dinner plate dahlias. The variety is Bartzella. Third year - I think much more vigorous than "regular" peonies.

An Itoh Peony and a Couple of Irises. 5.16.2021
I dont know the name of the Itoh peony. Most of mine are yellow-ish. This one is a year after planting - not bad for a peony. The irises are Wabash and American Classic.

More Bearded Iris Blossoms. 5.11.2020
Bearded irises are my favorite flower. Here are some more photos, taken today 5.11.2020
This was a "free rhizome" from the curbside while walking Rufus. |
I pollinated "Immortality" with "Spiced Custard" and this is what grew. I call it "Golden Caterpillar Climbing the Snowy Mountain to the Temple". :-) |
"Repeat Performance" |
"Zin City" |
Not an iris! I planted this Itoh Peony from Home Depot a few months ago. It's nice to have a sample flower now. "Scarlet Heaven", I think. 5.11.2020 |
Another photo of curbside rhizome, I think is "Blue Shimmer" 5.11.2020 |

Planting Some Itoh Peony Starts. 2.24.19
We planted these Itoh peony starts. They have a form similar to the usual herbaceous peonies, with leaves more like tree peonies and flowers more like tree peonies, I think. Sort of in between the two.
Last year I planted a package of three Itoh peonies, so this brings the total up to 6. We'll see how they do.
