They were never pruned and grew multiple limbs and got bushy. I thinned a few limbs and headed them to 7ft from 12ft to open them up leaving 3 limbs per tree, there is a ton of blind wood mid to lower on these limbs. Do you have any advice if the lower area can be made productive by notching or the tree will automatically create branches from blind wood.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29834831.post-794354458684806292024-02-26T07:40:58.944-08:002024-02-26T07:40:58.944-08:00I totally didn't know about the keikis on my D...I totally didn't know about the keikis on my Dendrobium nobile I just twisted them off but they are quite long, can I trim them down? We are moving back to California and want to take the Ginkgo tree we brought up from California 8 years ago..It is now dormant and I have cut many of the limbs back to 7 feet [the U-Haul is 8ft], but I haven't cut the main leader -which is split and going into 2 tall branches. I took a picture of the leader branches, but am unsure which ones to cut back so I don't kill the tree. Is there any way for me to send a picture to you for your help in this matter ? Also, if I cut the leader back to 7 ft [it's about 15 ft. not]- will this kill the tree ? My daughter gave me this tree and it's very special to me and I want to put it in their yard in Los Angeles where it will stay. thank you, judithAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29834831.post-77389018199084685832024-02-07T00:15:36.113-08:002024-02-07T00:15:36.113-08:00During a hiatus from the hustle and bustle of ever...During a hiatus from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, one might find solace in life-learning, exploring new hobbies, or perhaps even experimenting with old recipes. Speaking of old food, did you know that certain types of soil can greatly affect the preservation of food over time? For instance, in ancient civilizations, people stored their grains in clay pots buried in specific types of soil to prolong their shelf life. This ingenious method allowed them to preserve their food for longer periods, ensuring sustenance during harsh times. Interestingly, in some regions where tigers roam, the soil composition plays a crucial role in their habitat, influencing vegetation growth and prey availability. So, whether you're delving into life-learning or contemplating the mysteries of soil types, there's always something fascinating to discover!daniel lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04633866163561637973noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29834831.post-4127735523578663342024-01-19T16:06:32.585-08:002024-01-19T16:06:32.585-08:00I got a fesh copy of the new ordering list from Bu...I got a fesh copy of the new ordering list from Burntridge Nursery and will be doing a personal pickup of scions there soon so if I knew there were any apple scions from there that you wish to have then respond in my usual place as Rooney at homeorchardsociety dot org would work. I love what I have been able to create here on the shores of Lake Michigan over the last 24 years, but I am getting much older now and it is getting difficult to continue to the degree I once did. Know that you are not alone. We all come to the point where we are able to do less of the work, but focus more on the joy of observing what we have created.
